Capability 06 / 06
Technology decisions grounded in evidence, not vendor pitches.
The most expensive technology mistakes are made before anything is built: the wrong platform, the wrong sequence, a roadmap written by whoever pitched last. Advisory work puts a senior architect on your side of the table for the decisions that are hard to reverse.
Sound familiar
Where this usually starts.
You're choosing between platforms and every vendor says theirs is the answer.
A modernization is overdue, but nobody agrees on where to start.
You need senior technical leadership, but not a full-time executive hire.
An investor, board or buyer is about to look closely at your technology.
Deliverables
What we deliver.
- Architecture & code review
- An independent assessment of what you have: what's sound, what's risky, and what it costs to keep running.
- Platform & vendor evaluation
- Options compared against your requirements and constraints, with the trade-offs written down.
- Technical roadmap & sequencing
- What to build, buy or retire, in an order that delivers value early and avoids dead ends.
- Modernization & migration strategy
- A path off legacy systems that keeps the business running while it happens.
- Fractional CTO / lead architect engagements
- Part-time senior leadership: architecture decisions, vendor management and hiring support.
Engagement
How the engagement runs.
- 01
Scope
Define the decision to be made and the evidence needed to make it.
- 02
Architect
Research, interviews and a review of the current estate, documented as we go.
- 03
Build
A written recommendation with options, trade-offs and a sequenced plan.
- 04
Maximum
Optional follow-through — oversight of the build, or a fractional role while it happens.
Questions
Asked before we start.
- What does a fractional CTO engagement look like?
- A set number of days each month as your senior technical lead — owning architecture decisions, managing vendors and partners, and helping you hire. It suits companies that need the judgment but not yet the full-time role.
- Is the review useful if we don't hire you for the build?
- Yes — it's written to stand on its own. You keep the findings and the roadmap, whoever does the work.
- How long does an architecture review take?
- It depends on the size of the estate, so it's fixed in the written scope before work starts. You know the timeline and the price up front.
- Do you only advise on Salesforce?
- No. CRM and Salesforce are a deep specialty, but advisory work covers the wider estate — data, integration, cloud, and the AI decisions now landing on every roadmap.
